Become a Recruiter

Do you have an interest in becoming a recruiter?

Everyone has different reasons for moving into the industry. We may have friends in the industry, or we may have worked with a good recruiter in the past and they have sparked our interest. You may have also applied for a different role through a recruitment company and they have asked if you would like to talk about their company.

Recruiting can be a great career, but it is very important to join the company that is suited to you.

At DS Recruit, we constantly map the recruitment market, and every year, we see a lot of new faces move into the Japan Market, and every year we see some of those people leave the industry after a few months because they made the wrong choice. Read on to find out how we can help you make the right choice when moving into this wonderful industry

Why become a recruiter?
Money

If you are successful as a recruiter, you can make a lot of money. It is tough job, but you can do very well out of it.

Helping People

It may sound like a cliché, but for me, helping someone find a role in the right company and seeing them go on to be successful is one of the best parts of this job. Beers after work taste so much better after you have finished up a project and the client and the candidate are happy.

Every day is different

You can never say recruitment is the same old same old. Sure I have the tasks that I always do every day, but there is always something new or challenging around the corner

What background or skills do you need?

There is no set requirement that makes someone a good recruiter. We speak to good recruiters from all backgrounds every day. Having said that, the following experience are skills are useful

  • A background in sales
  • Time management skills
  • Problem solving
  • The ability to be task oriented
  • Listening skills
  • If you are not Japanese, strong Japanese ability is very helpful
  • Persistence
  • Thick skin

DS Recruit recommendations on what kind of company to choose.

Whether you choose a large company or a boutique, you want to make sure you are going to get the right kind of training and guidance. The large recruitment companies often have good ongoing training and development, so this can be a good entry point for your recruitment career. In a boutique company, it is often going to be a case of working alongside someone and picking it up as you go. Speaking for my personal situation, DS is my first recruitment role, and it is obviously a boutique, but I learned a lot working alongside Darren who has a background in large international recruitment companies.

We have some very good clients to help you develop as a recruiter, and we also have some very good clients who are up front about being unsuited for people without recruitment experience. Talk to us about your skill and experience, and we can help you work out the best place to start your career.

How we can help you to change career into recruiting

As well as supporting you in finding the best place for your career, we can also help you put your resume together right so it is suitable for applying for a role in recruitment, and prepare you for what to expect in the interview process.

We also deal with the decision makers in the recruitment companies, so we get your information to the right people, rather than lost in some online application portal.
